Studying facial expressions in the sketchbooks of Leonardo da Vinci or on Leonardo the 'teenage mutant ninja turtle,' students will gain appreciation for illustration as a tool of social criticism and outlet of social anxiety -as well as its historic uses and abuses. Caricature is essentially a transformation of a real person-not entirely a fabrication or a fantastical or fictional image. It can also be an anthropomorphic depiction of an inanimate object. The word "caricatura" has its roots in the Italian Renaissance, where it implied a drawing that likened humans to animals -primarily behaviorally, and analogously aesthetically. Course Pre-requisite: a sense of humor.
