In this course, students will examine historical theories of beauty from several prominent philosophers. We will address questions about the relationship between beauty and things like knowledge, morality, and art. Beyong theory, we will look at ways these ideas have influenced practices by artists, architects, and other designers. Lastly, we will look at recent studies in neuroaesthetics to explore new scientific notions about the beautiful and the human brain.
