Explore the role of artistic representations of phantasmagorical and numinous creatures, monsters, tricksters, and heroes in a range of cultures, times, and places. We will consider how stories from oral-narrative and folk traditions have been portrayed and transmogrified in literary representations and visual culture, including sculpture, paintings, drama, seasonal festival, chapbooks, penny dreadfuls, animation, film, and other manifestations popular culture.
