Beginning college is like entering an unknown landscape: you'll meet excitement and adventure but also significant challenge-and maybe even bewilderment. Designed to welcome new MassArt students into the community of learning, this experimental first-year seminar pilot aims to demystify the college transition. With an emphasis on critical thinking and self-aware learning, the course invites students to explore texts through deep reading, discussion, library experiences, and other immersive activities. Class meetings feature regular rotating visits from key campus offices, resources, and departments. Students work toward an original research presentation, led by their curiosity.
