Thinking, Making, Writing is a first-year writing course oriented toward close reading so as to develop a range of writerly muscles. Our main goal is to grow more fluent at describing the things we see and experience, visualizing things with words and projecting for others what we see, honestly, accurately, with gusto, from the heart. Also to read. Constantly, closely, attentively, deliberately—and maybe even with pleasure (if not strictly for pleasure). If the magic happens, your powers of expression will grow, whether you’re writing a text message, an artist statement, a personal essay, or maybe even (someday) a poem or a novel.
