Originality involves fashioning new things out of old materials. In Creativity as Transformation, we explore the myriad ways in which the idea of metamorphosis (shape-shifting) is embedded in our understanding of creativity. In a wide-ranging survey—from visual art (the Arcimboldo effect) to philosophy (atomism), literature (Ovid, Kafka), film/tv (Adaptation, Transformers), music (sampling, theme and variations), copyright law (fair use, "derivative" works), translation, allusion, parody—we'll peer into the creative mind and consider how, among the greatest innovators, change is a constant.
