Thinking, Making, Writing is a first-year writing course oriented toward close reading and a series of writing assignments—a personal essay, an artist’s statement, a critical essay involving research. In addition to the major assignments, students will move through a series of low-stakes writing exercises in class—interviewing each other, describing objects and processes, engaging in criticism and “argufying” about art and other subjects—so as to develop a range of writerly muscles.
