We explore the wellsprings of literary culture through a survey of timeless classics from antiquity into the modern era, reading the masterpieces—tragedy and comedy, epic and lyric, religious and secular—and probing the qualities that have contributed to their survival and lasting influence. Critical thinking, close reading, intensive class discussion, personal reflection papers, and intersectional art projects all contribute to a heightened appreciation of the arc and build of literary culture in constant conversation with the visual arts.
